There are a lot of software developed by the OS developers itself, which are more than enough for everyone, but still, there are developers from all over the globe developing third party software to make the user experience, even more, easier and sophisticated. The app or software development process is easy in Linux, windows and other operating systems, but when it comes to MAC OS, the Xcode IDE is used to develop apps for all Apple products and it is only accessible in MAC OS.

Xcode is an Integrated development environment designed by Apple for developers to develop applications for their MAC OS, iOS, TV OS, watch OS, etc. The latest version of Xcode is Xcode 9 with a lot of improvements and added some great features. But, one of the main drawbacks of Xcode from other windows and Linux IDE is that you cannot use Xcode on other operating systems like Windows and Linux, so in this post, I will walk you through on a detailed guide on how to install and use Xcode on windows.

However, you cannot run your Xcode IDE on a windows or a Linux machine, but if you are a developer then you will definitely know, nothing is impossible in computer field, likewise you can use MAC OS stimulators on windows and Linux to run MAC OS on windows or Linux and then install Xcode in it and use it on windows to develop applications for Apple products.

How To Install GCC Without XCode in Mac OS X

install-gcc-without-xcode

We have been looking for a proper way to install GCC without XCode for a long time. We found many ways that don’t work actually. We keep testing every possible way and found one alternative that not only easy to implement but also easier to understand, even a novice can do the tweak just by following the steps carefully. To install GCC, installing the whole package of XCode is similar to arrange a cannon to kill a mosquito. The tweak is got from the Apple’s website! Yes, that’s true that many developers still prefer XCode but for a way out with similar features and that doesn’t give pressure to the system the command line tools are better.

Using a developer account in Apple, you can access it at free of cost and download the package whenever you wish as it takes less space and time while connected to a decent data connectivity.

Installing GCC without XCode is a little bit tough task but we can do this thing quite efficiently if we apply some tweaks. These are not as tough as rocket science.

My friends, you may look for avoiding a large download so that you can start the GCC with a minimum download and within minimum startup time. The first tweak is to get the XCode from the installation disc that comes with Mac instead of downloading that from a scratch! It may save your time but not the hurdles that come while trying to install GCC without XCode. Yes, that’s a challenge!

install gcc without xcode mac os x

We are the developers have been asking for a way to get the GCC installed without the help of XCode. What we mean is very simple, we want a simple way to compile all the things including command line programs from the package manager i.e MacPorts and Homebrew and moreover all the language modules like Python eggs and Ruby Gems etc.

First, We need to have a free developer account so that we can download the Mac OS X 10.7.3 or higher version. To use the package installer we need that. This is why we had to get the Mac OS X!

Installation of this requires much less space on your hard disc and can significantly save your data bandwidth because the size of the installer file is tiny. Ultimately it results in a great saving in terms of time and money both.

Many fellow developers have uninstalled XCode because of the complexities around it. You can simply shed it off. Get this package instead of XCode because it needs only for advanced familiar Unix compiler toolkit uses. Otherwise, it doesn’t make any sense to have it installed on Mac while it eats up more space and time when using.

Things to remember

For your information let me tell you that Mac OS X itself a very terrible system package. Some of you may know this thing already. If in case the installation script doesn’t superimpose the existing files, the script related to uninstallation completely overlooks the files whether the files have been overwritten or not. That is really too bad!

Let us know what’s your experience without XCode! I hope all of you have quenched your thirst with this process to install GCC without XCode on Mac OS X. Stay tuned.

uninstall-xcode-from-mac

XCode is a stupendous app building software for Apple ecosystem. Installing this software is very easy. Anyone having Mac can download the files directly from the official website of Apple and by following the guides come with this a novice can install the software singlehandedly. But the reverse case is a little bit difficult. Uninstalling the XCode from Mac requires some sort of knowledge. Actually, in a line, you have to follow a string to uninstall this software from your Mac.

Let me tell you, there is no science and it doesn’t require any technical knowledge. If you have not used this earlier then follow the rules mentioned below and start chasing the process and it won’t last more than 5 mins. If you have used the same on Windows then a precaution is here- don’t compare the Mac system with Windows. In Windows, you can easily uninstall anything by clicking on a key.

uninatalling the XCode- Why?

The million dollar question comes here. Why do you need to uninstall XCode from Mac? The answer is very simple. To maintain the space in the Mac as it eats up more than 7 GB space along with 2-3 GB more while running.

Uninstall XCode- Not an easy process

It doesn’t matter which version you are using- XCode 8 or 9, you can remove it easily from your Mac OS X by following the points briefed here with patience.

#1 Find XCode: The process starts here, you need to search the XCode from this string- /Applications/envelope.

#2 Send the file to the trash: Click on the file and send it to the trash. You can drag that directly. Right click and click on the command of “empty trash”.

It makes the data od XCodes deleted fully from your system.

Always remember: If you have any project on developers’ file, then don’t make the mistake of deleting user Developer tools folder in any way. Otherwise, you will lose everything. You can have a backup before uninstalling the components come with XCode so that you can start the project anytime whenever you want in future.

uninstall xcode mac os x

You need to follow the directory to carry out the process further-

“/Library/Developer/.

once you find this path, go to the folder mentioned and you will find a folder named “Xcode” and “CoreSimulator”. Sometimes these aren’t got directly on the mentioned directory. You may have to open all the folders to get these folders. Once you are done with this one. then it’s time to move into the next point- find the user home directory and there will find the library where you will see the folder named “Developer” and you get it then just select and DELETE it!

If you have installed Xcode 4.3 or higher version then this easy process that has been mentioned above will work seamlessly but if you have an older version installed then we need to follow a manual way to figure out the process of deleting XCode from Mac.

Uninstall Xcode’s Unix Development Toolkit

Sometimes deleting the components left by a uninstalled software is required so that if in case we install the program again in future that can run smoothly. With the below mentioned command, you can remove the command line side of things in a minute. If you only want to remove the command line side of things, you can do that with this command:

sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=unixdev

We already have mentioned a script named “/Library/Developer/Shared/uninstall-devtools”. If you wish to delete this thing also, that’s why we are mentioning the process here otherwise you may keep that as whereas it is because it helps to maintain the structure of the XCode when being installed. So if you are uninstalling XCode from Mac temporarily then don’t delete this UNIX toolkit along with it because it will take minimum time to reinstall the XCode.

But for your info, the process is here-

Uninstall the Xcode Developer Folder and Contents Only

If you want to uninstall the XCode in a customized way then follow the string to uninstall the developer folder and contents.

sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=xcodedir

For your information: the abovementioned command is technically a simple shortcut of the string mentioned above- “/Developer/Library/uninstall-developer-folder”. If you don’t want to delete the files and folder by searching manually from folders to folders then simply run this command and you are done!

Let us know your experience by following the process mentioned here for uninstalling XCode from Mac. Stay tuned and stay updated.
